IMPORTANT INFORMATION

to Non-Residents Entering the United States or Canada
to Attend PDI Seminars

For seminars held in Canada

For PDI Seminars Held in the United states

As a candidate interested in participating in a PDI Seminar held in the United States, you must have a passport that will be valid beyond the duration of your visit to the United States. Check with the nearest U.S. embassy for visa requirements. A visa is required for citizens of countries that do not participate with the Visa Waiver Program and may take at least 3 months to obtain. PDI seminar participants should apply for a Business B-1 Visa.

Please note that we do not arrange visas for participants; but, upon completion and full payment of your registration, we provide a letter confirming that you have registered and paid to attend the conference.

How to Obtain a Visa

You must complete the online visa application and print the application form confirmation page to bring to your interview along with PDI letter confirming your registration.

The U.S. embassy or consulate will determine whether you qualify for the visa. Therefore, it is important to demonstrate that:
  1. The purpose of your trip is to enter the United States temporarily for business or pleasure
  2. You plan to remain for a specific and limited period;
  3. You have evidence of funds to cover expenses while in the United States;
  4. You don't reside in the United States;
  5. You have binding ties that will ensure your departure at the end of the visit;
  6. You have a printed copy of the seminar description from PDI website. It is also desirable to have with you a copy of your pre-reading document, if prescribed by the workshop leader;
  7. You have a copy of your receipt showing the full payment for the seminar's tuition fees.
  8. You have an invitation letter from The Professional Develoment Institute (PDI) confirming your registration to the seminar;
  9. You have the name of PDI contact. If you arrive on a week day (Monday through Friday), during working hours, please indicate the contact names of Sylvia Richard at 819-772-7777. The letter of confirmation will provide you with a staff member name and private phone number for off-hour use only by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in the case of an emergency.
Important: Travelers using the Visa Waiver Program must also have valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval before they travel.

Interview Preparation

As part of the visa application process, an interview at the embassy consular section is required for visa applicants, with a few exceptions.
  • Applicants should be able to answer specific and detailed questions related to their purpose of travel, business dealings with the inviter, and their general business relations (as appropriate, depending on their job responsibilities).
  • Applicants should be able to provide a complete travel itinerary and PDI workshop schedule.
  • Applicants who claim to have existing relationships with their inviters or other U.S. entities, should provide clear proof of these relationships. For instance, through purchase orders, correspondence, letters of invitation, etc. Applicants should be able to explain how the applicant’s visit will be funded.
NOTE: Proof of purchase of an airline ticket is not an item requested by the embassy to document your itinerary for your trip. No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance. Therefore, final travel plans or the purchase of non-refundable ticket should not be made until a visa has been issued and you are in receipt of the passport.

The following documentation will assist the officer in making a decision on admissibility (CSBA may request further information).

  1. A passport that will be valid beyond the duration of your visit to Canada
  2. If applicable, a temporary resident visa. IMPORTANT: If you need a visa, please apply early with your passport and all the documents specified below. Visa applications can take several weeks to process.

  4. Evidence of return travel (a return ticket from Canada);
  5. Proof of accommodation for the duration of your stay in Canada such as your hotel confirmation (Hotel Accommodation for out-of-town participants). If you plan to stay in a private home, you must bring a dated and signed note confirming the invitation and indicating the host's name and first name, residential address, and day and evening phone numbers.
  6. A printed copy of the seminar description from www.executive.org. It is also desirable to have with you a copy of your pre-reading document, if prescribed by the workshop leader;
  7. A copy of your receipt showing the full payment for the seminar's tuition fees;
  8. A support letter from The Professional Develoment Institute (PDI) confirming your registration to the seminar;
  9. The name of PDI contact in Canada. If you arrive on a week day (Monday through Friday), during working hours, please indicate the contact names of Sylvia Richard at 819-772-7777.
