The Balanced Score Card (BSC) is a framework to enable the fulfillment of the organization's vision and mission with the vital few measurable critical success factors (targets, performance indicators). Its benefit is a greater balance between: Lagging indicators (financial reports) and leading indicators (customers enquiries, weather forecasts), quantitative and qualitative measures, internal and external drivers of performance. The focus is on integrating four areas of performance:

  1. Financial perpspective: Shareholder Value, Profitability, Market Share (Present, Growth), Operating Expenses, Asset Turnover
  2. Customer perception: Trust, (Reputation, history); Response Time (from info requests to delivery time and post-transaction services), Quality, Value (products andservices) and Costs
  3. Internal Operations: Cycle time, Quality, Talent Skills and Productivity, Decision Value, Workload Drivers, Management, Resources, Capabilities (What we excel at)
  4. Innovation, Continuous Improvement & Learning: Value Incubation and Creation; Portfolio of Pilot Experiments, New Product & Services Pipeline; Work Killer Processes, Managment Tools; Learning Focussed on Improving Customer Value and Competitive Advantage
